Summer means boots are put away until Fall and sandals are brought out instead as our staple footwear. You don’t need to spend a fortune going to the salon to get a pedicure, here’s how to give yourself a fabulous at-home version. Before starting a pedicure ensure you have all of the essential tools needed. For a pedicure, you’ll need a straight nail clipper, nail file, foot file, cuticle pusher, cuticle trimmer, a foot mask, and cuticle oil. Use the nail clippers to cut the toenails short, avoiding any in-grown hairs. After this file the nails smooth in one direction. Gently push back waxy build-up on the nail and near the cuticle with a cuticle pusher. Then use the cuticle trimmer to trim any dead skin or hangnails. Next, soak the feet in warm water to help remove dead skin cells. Use a foot file to buff away rough areas of skin focusing on cracks on the edges of your heels and ball of your foot. A chemical foot peel can be used instead to dissolve rough skin but you should soak your feet after this for an extra 10 minutes. Next, you can paint your nails as normal, use a base coat to prevent chips and yellow stains on the nails. Don’t forget to finish with a little cuticle oil for healthy toenails.
