As a long-lasting summer tradition, people tend to have different methods for roasting marshmallows over a fire. While some people like to let their marshmallow slowly roast above the flames, others let theirs catch fire. There’s not necessarily a proper or correct way to toast marshmallows. It generally comes down to whatever you’re comfortable with or however you were taught growing up, Tony Matassa, Chef. However, chef Tony Matassa says there is one way of cooking marshmallows that results in ‘maximum caramelization’. The chef from New Orleans spoke to Fox News about how different techniques can affect the flavor of a marshmallow. He says that those who prefer caramelized flavors should keep the marshmallow just outside the flames and toast evenly. An even toast means you’ve maximized the caramelized flavors on your marshmallow, Tony Matassa, Chef. Roasted marshmallows are usually used to make s’mores, but there are plenty of other ways to enjoy them. Try spreading a well-toasted marshmallow over pancakes, or mix them with your favorite cereal. If you’re feeling adventurous, try dipping the marshmallow in a custard sauce, or put on top of a grilled banana.
