Your Baby’s Poo Is Full Of Plastic

00:01:06

A new scientific study has revealed that, on average, there are 36,000 nanograms of plastic in every gram of baby feces. Researchers say that it is ten times the amount found in adult feces, and it can even be found in newborns’ first feces. The plastic in question is polyethylene terephthalate (PET), an extremely common polymer known as polyester in clothing. The substance is also commonly used to make plastic bottles. Scientists believe infants have more exposure to the material due to several reasons. These reasons include drinking from bottles and putting things such as toys and fabrics in their mouths. Researchers are now trying to understand the impact these plastics are having on children. The research was published in the journal Environmental Science & Technology Letters.
