November 22, 1963 - U.S. Attorney General Robert Kennedy receives a phone call from FBI Director J. Edgar Hoover, telling him that his brother, President John F. Kennedy has been shot on the streets of Dallas, Texas. At the hospital, Vice President Lyndon Johnson, who was traveling in the same motorcade as the President, learns that JFK is dead. LBJ calls the president’s brother, Robert Kennedy, to offer his sympathy before stating his desire to be sworn in immediately. Through his grief, the Attorney General confirms the proper wording of the Presidential Oath of Office. Barely two hours after the assassination, aboard Air Force One, Lyndon Baines Johnson is sworn in as the 36th President of the United States. Refusing to change out of her bloodied pink suit, Jackie Kennedy stands at his side, “let them see what they’ve done.”
