Aaron Burr journeys into the Western frontier after fatally wounding his political rival, Alexander Hamilton, in a duel. His political career in ruins, Burr leases 40,000 acres, known as the Bastrop Tract, from the Spanish government. Some say Burr is an opportunist, who plans on creating an armed militia that will be ready to claim land in his name if a war with Spain breaks out. Others see Burr as an abolitionist, who leases the Bastrop Tract to create a free zone for slaves to own and farm their own land. A warrant is issued for his arrest after his plans are uncovered, but his actions are deemed legal. Burr’s secret correspondence between Anthony Merry and the Marquis of Casa Yrujo reveals his true intentions. Burr plans to raise an army to help Mexico overthrow Spain and found a dynasty in his name. Aaron Burr, King of Mexico. Despite being acquitted on charges of treason, the stain on his character remains to this day.
