1929 - The Cunard Line begins construction on a super ocean liner named Job 534. After the depression causes more than two years of delay, Job #534 is finally completed and named the Queen Mary by her Majesty Queen Mary. 1936 - She embarks on her maiden voyage. Painted gray and equipped for service, she joins the allied forces during World War II. As the fastest and largest transport ship, she carries troops, prisoners, brides and their children. One voyage sets the record for the most people ever aboard a ship. After the war, she returns to service carrying the world’s elite vacationers until air travel becomes the most popular form of transportation; crippling the cruise industry. Cunard sells the vessel to the city of Long Beach. Now a popular event and tourist destination, some visitors believe those who died onboard continue to haunt the Queen Mary.
