George Washington - U-S- Presidents - President's Day - One Minute History

00:00:59

George Washington is born without a middle name. At the age of eleven, his father dies, and he inherits a farm and slaves. In his teens, George becomes a county surveyor and buys more land. At twenty, and with no military experience, he becomes an officer in the Virginia militia. Washington has two horses shot out from under him in the battle that ignites the French and Indian War. Four years later, he retires from service, marries Martha Custis and improves agricultural techniques at Mt. Vernon. Washington returns to service as Commander-in-Chief during the American Revolution, and forces the British to surrender at Yorktown. Sworn in as America’s first President, he serves two terms with one real tooth before voluntarily surrendering power and returning home. When George Washington dies at the age of sixty-seven, he is the owner of the nation’s largest whiskey distillery. Besides gracing American currency, he wrote over 18,000 letters, created the “Super Mule” and was named America’s only six star general.
