June 2, 1899 - Wilcox, Wyoming - A group of outlaws rob Union Pacific Number 1 of its loot; a haul worth an estimated thirty to fifty thousand dollars. Union Pacific Railroad dispatches its own specially outfitted Number 4 train to investigate; loaded with horses, supplies and men. When a reward of three thousand dollars is posted for each of the six bandits, a posse of over one hundred forms within 24 hours; including lawmen, the Burlington Railroad force and the Pinkerton’s. The hunt for the crooks begins. As the investigation continues, bank notes from the robbery are being spent in towns all over the west. Evidence suggests that the famous outlaw Butch Cassidy was the mastermind although the culprits have never been officially identified.
